OEM LED Lighting: 12-Point Checklist Before You Sign with a Factory — Buying Guide

Picking the wrong OEM supplier is one of the most expensive mistakes a lighting brand can make. Quality drift, missed shipments, and certification problems all flow back to your warehouse.

Before signing, verify: (1) Real factory or trading company? Ask for a video tour. (2) Number of SMT lines and production capacity. (3) In-house QC vs outsourced QC. (4) Aging test policy — is it 100% of units or a sample? (5) Third-party certifications issued under the factory name.

Continue with: (6) LM-80 / IES-LM-79 photometric files on every SKU. (7) Sample lead time and cost. (8) MOQ per SKU, not per order. (9) Tooling cost ownership. (10) NDA protection on your designs.

And finally: (11) Warranty terms — both years and claims process. (12) Reference customers in your target market. A good OEM partner will share contact info from at least one comparable customer.

FAQ

Quick follow-up questions

Short answers extending the topic of "OEM LED Lighting: 12-Point Checklist Before You Sign with a Factory".

Ask our sales team
How do I verify a Chinese LED factory is real and not a trading company?

Ask for: a live video tour starting from the front gate, photos of the SMT line with the same operators on a future Zoom call, the factory’s business license (营业执照) and the production permit. Trading companies often cannot show staff working on lines bearing the company name.

What does "100% aging test" really mean?

It means every finished fixture is powered on under rated load for 2–4 hours before packing, not just a 1–5% sample. The test catches infant-mortality failures (cold solder, marginal drivers) before they reach customers. Ask the factory to share aging-room photos and logs.

Should I demand DDP shipping from an OEM factory?

DDP is convenient for the buyer but transfers all customs, duty and import-VAT cost into the factory’s quote. You pay either way. Most experienced importers prefer FOB or CIF to retain customs control. Use DDP only for small / urgent shipments.
